$799.00 Home Depot decision
Original Message   Jan 25, 2006 7:39 pm
Hello,

Could you some advise as I have not owned this large of a snowblower before. I was hoping to get the *compact*  Ariens 2 stage but all are sold out . Due to the current HD 20% off promotion, the Ariens 9.25HP and the Toro 8HP(826LE) are both selling for $799.00. I think these are both excellent machines but would you guys recommend one over for the same price?

Thanks,

I have heard of people getting an additional 10% off for using a new HD credit card. I have one but I am waiting to make a large purchase.

I own 2 Ariens machines...all metal...3 year warranty. I never had a problem with either machine. Just make sure the chute control works on the floor models. Cheap help sometimes causes poor assembly.

Since both are good machines and the price is right, I'd look each one over carefully for any signs of poor set-up. Once you get it home, waste no time in making sure the oil is in the engine and then test all functions thoroughly.  I'm partial to Toro, especially because I like the quik-stik and the Power Max...but that's just me. That price is $200 less than the preseason price of the Toro 826 in my area and less than what I paid for my 726 over two years ago. I'm jealous, but I'll get over it.

its almost a toss up, if you have a gravel driveway, to be on the safe side, go for the ariens, steel is the way to go, don't have to worry about any plastic or cracking the stick off if you hit it wrong, but if its paved and you don't have to worry about things getting chucked into the plastic go for the toro.  Its a great machine and the red color is nice.  Both are great machines, so far I am enjoying the features and operation of the 926LE.  Haven't had snow for it but the levels and such are nice and it looks like construction equipment :)
