Wiring Diagram needed
Original Message   Dec 16, 2005 12:22 pm
Anyone have a wiring diagram for my Ariens st 1236 or a similar model with a 12v d/c starter. I decided I am going to stay 12V and there is a loose white wire that I'm not sure where it hooks up.

Thanks in advance

Anyone with an STE8524  or 1128LE may also have your schematic within their PARTS manual. Several schematics are provided for a few models in the same book.  You may be able to order a hard copy from Ariens like I did.

Sorry Chev70, I do have your schematic but it is 95 miles away in PA. It only gets more complicated if you have the electric chute, heated handgrips, and light. There may also be a fuse under the console. I would disconnnect the 12v battery and place one lead of an ohm meter on the white wire and touch the other to different wires on the machine. You may get a hint by the resistance you read.

Mine has the light but no heated grips or electric chute. I got a diagram from a newer model with the heated grips. It looks pretty straigt forward but some of the colors are different.  I'll try and put something together with the one I have..... If you have the actual diagram for a 924321, would you be willing to fax it???

I have the "similar" newer schematic you are requesting. The colors vary from year to year. The schematic is in my Honesdale, PA house. No FAX available...no phone hooked up yet.

Chances are the colors are different. You need the EXACT model schematic. Ariens probably does have it ....at a price.

I use a $9.95 digital meter for troubleshooting. Sometimes I "luck out" using some logic. For instance, I would disconnect 12v battery, take out the bulb and measure the filament resistance, write it down. I would measure the starter resistance, write it down ....pull the relay (if  it had one)and measure the relay coil resistance, write it down, magneto coil etc etc.  Then measure at the white wire to ground and put back the bulb first, then hook up the starter, insert the relay coil while WATCHING  the digital meter at all times. If that number changes and looks like any of the items you previously measured, you then know where the wire is going to and give you a clue.
