Hi, All!

I'm a first timer here. Great forum!

I got a question for the pros:

Got an Arien 1332 Pro. (The 2000 Pro model with the electric chute).

I'm tired to see the snowthro trying to climb on the heavy snow that the plows leaves in front of the garage entrance many times each snowstrorm.

So i decide to add some extra weight on the front of the snowthro.

I know that Ariens have a stock extra weight kit. This metal plate according to Ariens is 10 Lbs. But because it's the same kit for all snowthrowers models, it may not be the exact perfect weight to add on a larger model like mine. Anyways none of the Ariens dealers near my home have it in stock. And because just the delivery fee of this kit will cost me as much as the kit itself  -  because of the weight - I decide to made one myself.

But how much weight will be enought - more than 10Lbs I guess - and hom much weight will be too much?

Anybody have done this on his snowthrower ?

How did you made the insallation, did you put a rubber plate under it to avoid scratching the paint, do you put the plate under or over the deck, what's the dimmensions and thickness of the plate etc...

Any clues, any infos to help me have it done properly ?

My Huskey 27 STE came with a weight on it.

It is 21 inchs long, 2 1/2 wide, and 1/2 inchs thick.

Mounted with 2  1/4 carrige bolts, with nylon washers between the weight and auger housing.

Sorry, I do not know the weight.

Only 2 1/2 inch wide !?

If so, because steel is about 10.2 Lbs / ft²  for a 1/4" thick plate, it would be about 7.5 Lbs ...  lighter than i expect !

I checked my blower and it is 30 inchs from center of my wheels to center of my weight

So 7.5 lbs X  2.5 feet  = 18.75 foot pounds of down ward force on the front of the blower.

That is a lot of increase!!!

Well,

I expected more because two Ariens dealers told me to add about 20 Lbs on my machine.

I was suspicious because of the 10 Lbs weight proposed by Ariens. The 20 Lbs they recommand  seems to be too much in that perspective.

So my instinc to ask the question on the forum was probably right.

I learned not to be too confident when my instinc tell me something else than the so called pros or expert says.

 My blower weighs about 270 pounds with the weight bolted on!!

But a fast question: The weight is bolted over or under the deck on your blower ?

I PM'd you......

My weight came with my snow cab.....it is made for the ariens......it is 20 lbs steel. Came with rubber washers to keep it from rubbing/touching the orange steel, and is bolts on the front of the unit.
Bad thing is that the small plastic shovel that came with the unit no longer fits well with the weight.  With 13hp though, I NEVER have needed it.

I plan on mounting it back on soon in another spot.

You have the cab, that is why the 20 pounds!!

You need the extra weight to counter balance the cab!
