Has anyone else encountered this ?

Hey guy's it's been a while .

I don't post often but I discovered a little problem while servicing my blower for the upcoming season and thought I would  share my story  thinking that maybe someone else has had the same problem.

It is an Ariens 1128le which I bought new in Jan 04.  I noticed while servicing my machine,  that my friction wheel was chewed up on one side and I determined the cause of the problem.  A washer on the shift rod (which is connected to shift arm) makes contact with  the friction wheel, but only when the machine is in 3rd or 4th .

I bought my machine from an ope dealer 250 miles from me because my local dealer just  didn't have and couldn't get any more blowers .

So, I go to see my local Ariens dealer explaining my problem and turns out he had the same problem with the machines he had sold that year. He didn't say if all models were affected .  His fix, redrill the lower shift rod and replace with new washer  and replace friction wheel.

He told me to bring in my paperwork  and this would be done under warranty, which makes me very happy.

I noticed the same thing on my 1128dle. when i removed the cover to service the unit i noticed the side of the tire was chewed a little. i moved the lever and found that the washer was hitting also. i did not contact my local shop about a fix . I was just going to keep it in 1st or 2nd untill the warranty was over then modify it myself. Im not to pleased with my local dealer service wise. he did not do the run in on my machine . when i asked him why he does not do the run in/break in he asked me what i was talking about ? I had to explain it to him. It is in the beginng of all the owners manuals and this guy has a small shop so at that point i figured the less i have to have him do the better. If there was another local dealer within reason to me I would have it done under warranty.

maybe you can take a pic of what he does after you have it done and either email it to me or post it so i will have something to go by.

Will do

I think he is going to drill a new hole ahead of the one that is on the lower shift rod for the hair pin,  by doing this  the shirt rod would be pulled back enough to clear the friction wheel.

The blower should be going into the shop next friday as I have no way of getting it there until then.

The dealer also mentioned that  he has heard nothing from Ariens about this problem and that he encountered it when servicing machines he had sold from that model year, and I'm unsure if he has made them aware of it.

I wonder if this will effect the 06 models? I'll have to check it out tonight before I do some damage to the friction wheel.
