Mobil 1 in new equipment?
Original Message   Apr 14, 2005 9:08 am
I just heard from Marshal that he uses Mobil 1 in his OPE. My question is:

I just purchased a brand new Ariens snow blower with a tech 8.5HP that is now winterized (Has 5 minutes run time to make sure it works) and I will be taking delivery of a brand new Bradley 32 mower with a Briggs 10.5HP IC engine. How long should I wait to start running Mobil 1? (I only waited 1000 miles in my truck (2003 Super Charged Nissan Frontier) and no problems but this may be different?) The next question is what weight do you run? 10W30?

PS I have never ever been so anxious to mow my lawn!!!!!

Run the oil that it comes with for about 5 hours or so, then switch to Mobil 1 and a new filter. There's no sense in draining the oil for Mobil 1, it's going to become filled with the break-in metal shavings and gunk and then drained.

It's cool to see you excited, I love it!

I concur w/ breakin w/ the regular oil for 5 hours.

As far as weight goes, where do you live?, How much area do you mow?  For example I live in Chicago area, I start off w/ 5-30 around now, I put 30 hours on in about 10 weeks, then I change and put 10W30 for the hotter months.  In late fall I go back to the 5w30.  If you live South in higher summer temps, you may even want to run Straight weight 30.

I am in NY. I have 10W30 in my inventory so when it is time, that will probably be what it gets. The Snow Blower will get 5w30 when I change it as it only gets used in the cold!

Hey Brain, I know down here in Fla all the guys tell me to run straight 30wt. I'm guessing because of the hotter weather we have i dunno. But that is what I run in both my mowers no problems.

Exmark 48inch & Bridges 36inch walkbehind, Scotts 21 inch walk behind mower,Husqvarna trimmer and blower, Echo PE200 edger,Weedeater & Stihl HL45C hedge trimmers,Echo CS440 chain saw and a Stihl HT101 power pruner, and a El Cheapo pressure washer.
