Your friend is right BFG and XFS are close but BFG is the best. Those are both really good cards and will kick a**. However, ATI, MSI, Gainward, and Asus are what most gamers buy out there. For gaming, you really don't need the 256MB version of the card though.
However, if you plan to build levels, or do any cad applications, then you should deffinetly get the 256MB version. Either way, both are good cards and will serve you well. If it were me though, I would buy a MSI, but hay, thats just me.
