Shark Multi-Vac . . .
#1 Yesterday 9:42 pm
Hi, Has anybody seen the Shark Multi-Vac yet? Slightly reminiscent of a bagged "transformer-type" lightweight that Sanyo put out for a good while this bagless stick vac's web page has a video that actually invokes the name of Dyson AND uses the famous and much debated "never loses suction" pitch. It sells direct for $160.00 on the Shark web page but can be found at Target for $119.00. Most interesting is that it bears a five-year warranty. Link follows: http://www.sharkmultivac.com Venson

Mr. 2 IP's and 2 IP locations,

Well, well, well... Why would a guy your age have this much knowledge and uses for 3 browsers? Which browser is dedicated for the anonymous proxy server and your Severus character? FYI - many viruses come from visiting naughty web sites.

Dear, dear DIB,

Well, why would a guy your age continually be so dim? Browser technology, etc., changes just about every other day so it's good to keep up with what's going on. Keeps you young and also keeps you from being stupid. (Trust my advice.)

Same as with vacuum cleaners, I try web browsers to find out what they're like and to learn which serves my purposes. Also the same as with vacuums whether it be Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari or Firefox, each version claims it's a step ahead of all the rest -- just like Dyson. Nonetheless, it being that no product is better than the satisfaction the user perceives, the proof's in the pudding.

Stay boring . . .

Long before the Rainbow water-bath [shop] vac there was a railcar water vac. . . .

DIB

Though I'm not necessarily fully appreciative, long before Dyson, the intent of the first designer of Rexair/Rainbow was to make a bagless household vacuum WITHOUT aid of water as a filtering medium yet came upon the possibility and ran with the ball. Now more than seventy years since, with great numbers of new and repeat buyers, the idea is still out there on the market and not only being sold by Rainbow.

Hi Severus,

A lot has to do with whomever's preferred manner of cleaning. I think a well-designed canister vacuum not only handles floors well but makes tasks like stair cleaning a lot simpler and also eliminates the need and expense of two devices if you want to do more than just floors. (Hoover and Oreck lightweights provide enough oomph for carpet and bare floor cleaning but offer small portables to take up the slack above the floor.) However, a vacuum really has to fit the user's personal likes if it is to be regularly employed. For housekeepers accustomed to handling above the floor work like dusting, etc., by hand, a lightweight upright is probably a good deal.

Gary was the worst performing vacuum on carpeting of all vacuums tested by CR. As CR says, there are better choices. They point out that the "free bags" have a $9.95 charge for shipping and handling.

Thanks for the info Severus. I feel the whole Garry Vac issue stems from off-kilter consumer expectations of cheap miracles and also because of our belief that if something's said or shown on TV -- well -- it must be so. If you happen to read HSN consumer reviews from disgruntled vacuum customers you'll see many disappointed testimonies.

Unfortunately, I've come to believe that fair pricing on vacuums whose use may prove worth the while will not come about until the American economy has been knocked to it knees and manufacturers are gagging for air. I'd say to smart consumers, know what you're looking for and when you can catch a good sale, jump on it before you just have to.

Best,

Venson
